According to multiple sources – including TSN’s Bob McKenzie and DelcoTimes writer Anthony SanFilippo – the Flyers have traded Jeff Carter to the Columbus Blue Jackets for restricted free agent winger Jakub Voracek and Columbus’ first and third round draft picks.
This trade had been rumored for a while now, and it appears to finally have happened. While the Flyers do get the #8 overall pick in tomorrow’s draft and a former #7 overall draft pick in Jakub Voracek, the team loses their best offensive forward, an elite two-way NHL forward, and a key member of their “core” that Paul Holmgren continuously pledged to keep together.
What does this mean? It means Ilya Bryzgalov will be a Flyer next year. And it means he’s going to cost a lot of money against the cap.
More to come…
