For those unfamiliar with the goings-on of NHL All Star Weekend, here's a closer look at Thursday night's Fantasy Player Draft, which will air at 7 p.m. ET and can be seen on NBC Sports in the US.
The draft will be conducted by Bruins captain Zdeno Chara (Team Chara) and Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson (Team Alfredsson), who were elected the captains through a vote by both fans and NHL league office members.
Chara will be assisted by Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul, and Alfredsson will have Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist on his side. Each roster will consist of 3 goalies, 6 defensemen, and 10 forwards.
The first pick will be decided by a coin toss, and Chara and Alfredsson will then alternate picking the 38 All Stars available, with two notable stipulations involved: each team's three goalies must be chosen by the conclusion of round 10, and each team's six defensmen must be selected by the conclusion of round 15.
12 NHL rookies will also participate in the game, but they are unavailable for drafting. The NHL will divide the crop of rookies in half to round out each All Star roster, and at the end of round 15 of the Fantasy Player Draft, the NHL will appoint one rookie to choose which squad he and his five teammates will join.
Five Flyers will participate in the game, as center Claude Giroux, left winger Scott Hartnell and defenseman Kimmo Timonen will be available for drafting, and young studs Sean Couturier and Matt Read will be a part of the rookie cast.
Team Chara will be coached by Claude Julien of the Bruins, and Team Alfredsson will be led by John Tortorella of the Rangers.
The All Star Game will be played Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET, and can be seen on NBC Sports.

C Claude Giroux was rewarded for his sensational first half of the season with an All Star nod, and he'll be joined by LW Scott Hartnell and D Kimmo Timonen. C Sean Couturier and RW Matt Read -- the Flyers dynamic pair of rookies -- were named to All Star rookie group.
The game will be played on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET, and can be seen in the US on NBC Sports.

Philadelphia Flyers left winger Scott Hartnell was named to the 2012 NHL All-Star Game earlier today. Hartnell was selected to replace injured Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. The All-Star game will take place in Ottawa on Jan. 29 at 4 p.m.
Hartnell talked about being selected as an All-Star today. Hartnell said he "was a little nervous" when he got a text message from Brendan Shanahan, a former NHLer who now watches over the league's discipline, among other things.
The trip to All-Star weekend will be Hartnell's first since he played in the YoungStars Game in 2002 as a member of the Nashville Predators. Hartnell has 25 goals this season with Philadelphia, 13 of which have come on the power-play, which ranks him first in the league. Hartnell is only five goals away from tying his career-high of 30, which he set back in 2008-2009.

Hartnell is getting some well-deserved recognition for having one of his best NHL seasons.

With his hard-hitting, in-your-face style of play, Hartnell has become one of the most-hated players outside of Philadelphia. And he wouldn't have it any other way.
