The game drew the lowest television rating (2.4) for a Winter Classic game in the first five years of the event. The most-watched game was a 2009 meeting between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings that drew a 2.9 rating. Last year's game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals had a 2.8 rating.

Those who did tune in on Monday were treated to a heck of a game. The Rangers scored two third-period goals to grab a 3-2 lead, then held on despite two crucial penalties down the stretch, including one that allowed Danny Briere to shoot a penalty shot with 19.6 seconds left. Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist turned the penalty shot away, allowing the Rangers to skate off with the victory.
