2011 MLB All Star Voting: Placido Polanco Extends Lead At Third

Major League Baseball released the second round of voting results for the 2011 MLB All Star Game and Placido Polanco remains the lone Phillie leading his position. Polly has extended his lead over Chipper Jones by 247,209 votes or 43%. While he's the only guy on the team leading his position, a Phillies is among the top five in voting for every position other than the outfield.

Chase Utley remains third in the voting among second baseman, which is kind of crazy considering he's been back less than a month. He has last ground from the initial voting however, with Rickie Weeks lead for second growing by almost 25,000 votes. Both are well behind the leader Brandon Phillips however.

Polanco certainly won't be the Phils only representative at the midsummer classic. They're certain to get a pitcher or two or three as well... but that will depend on who would be available to be pitch.

Original Story

2011 MLB All Star Voting: Placido Polanco Leads NL Third Baseman

Major League Baseball released the first 2011 All Star game balloting and Placido Polanco currently holds a healthy lead over other NL third baseman. Polanco has 724,724 votes while second place Chipper Jones has just 540,168. While Polly is the only Phillie with a lead, a host of others are in the top five at their position.

Amazingly, Chase Utley is third in the voting among 2B despite the fact that he hasn't played most of the season. He has about a 270K vote deficit to make up to catch the Reds' Brandon Phillips. If he doesn't, it will break Chase's streak of five straight All Star games.

As for other Phils, Carlos Ruiz is fourth among NL catchers, although I guess you could say he's third now that Buster Posey (the current leader) is done for the year. Jimmy Rollins is second among shortstops, although he's way behind the top vote getter Troy Tulowitztki, who has garnered 975,777 votes to Jimmy's 454,782.
