Melky Cabrera has played for four different teams in the last four seasons. In 2013, he will likely join yet another new team.
The Philadelphia Phillies are looking for a marquee center fielder. Prior to his suspension for steroids, Melky Cabrera might have been the perfect choice.
In 2012, Cabrera played 113 games for the San Francisco Giants and hit .346 with a .390 on-base percentage. He also slugged 25 doubles, 10 triples, and 11 home runs, while stealing 13 bases.
But as John Gonzalez and Jim Salisbury point out on CSNPhilly, Cabrera's 50-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs makes him a serious risk for any team. Instead of a long-term contract, Cabrera will likely have to settle for a one-year deal to prove himself.
