Michael Young traded: Phillies nab veteran either ready to rebound or on the decline

The Phillies filled a hole at the hot corner on Saturday, trading for veteran Michael Young. Will the trade pay off or flame out?

The Philadelphia Phillies' acquisition of veteran third baseman Michael Young from the Texas Rangers could either be one of the biggest steals of the offseason or a big disappointment, according to CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury.

On Saturday, Young waived his no-trade clause and was dealt to Philadelphia for two pitchers — reliever Josh Lindblom and minor-leaguer Lisalverto Bonilla.

A trade involving Young was a long time coming, as for years the 36-year-old former American League batting champion was on the trading block. Only now was Young willing to waive his no-trade rights and join the Phillies, who will make him their starting third baseman.

Last year, Young had one of his most disappointing seasons, hitting just .277 with eight home runs and 67 RBIs.

So, the question is: did the Phillies snag a veteran ready to bounce back, or one that's on the decline?

Philadelphia fans will find out, but as for right now their team did a good job of filling a hole at the hot corner.
