The Philadelphia Phillies failed to collect its second series win of the season Sunday, as they lost to the San Diego Padres 6-1 at Petco Park. Anthony Bass pitched six innings of one-run ball for the Padres (5-12), who were able to beat the Phillies (7-8) in the final two games of a four-game set to earn a split.
Phillies' starting pitcher Joe Blanton suffered his third loss of the season, as he lasted just six innings after allowing six runs -- three earned -- on seven hits, the same amount that Philly's offensive was able to muster.
Overall, the Phillies went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and twice had runners in scoring position with one out, but wasn't able to drive home a run.
Phildelphia's defense was just as bad as the offense, as it committed three errors, the first allowing two first-inning runs by the Padres.
The Phillies now travel to Phoenix, Az. to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in a three-game series that begins on Monday at 9:40 p.m. Kyle Kendrick (0-0, 1.93 ERA) will take the mound for Philly.

Roy Halladay pitched well enough to win, throwing seven strong innings and allowing just two runs, but his efforts proved futile for the Phillies on Saturday night, as they fell 5-1 to the Padres in San Diego.
It wasn't until the top of the ninth inning that Philadelphia was able to generate anything offensively, when Ty Wiggington's double off of Huston Street scored Jimmy Rollins for the lone Phillies run. The offense continues to spoil solid outing from their starting pitchers, and it will need to pick it up even more as Cliff Lee heads to the DL with an oblique strain.
Cory Luebke went eight innings to earn his second win of the season for San Diego, who has now won their first game in three tries this series.
Joe Blanton will oppose Anthony Bass in the series finale on Sunday, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m. EST.

Philadelphia Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz missed the team's 4-1 victory against the San Diego Padres on Friday night due to a sore left wrist, and will be reevaluated on Saturday according to manager Charlie Manuel.
Ruiz, considered day-to-day, was injured during a collision at the plate Thursday night and dealt with swelling and soreness as a result. His availability for Saturday night's meeting with the Padres depends on how the wrist responds.
"He was having trouble gripping a bat, and I decided that today is the day that I would give him the day off," manager Charlie Manuel said on Friday. "I might give him another one, but we'll see how he is tomorrow."

The Philadelphia Phillies continue their Western road trip Saturday night against the San Diego Padres. (Game Time: 8:35 p.m., TV Schedule: PHL 17)
Philadelphia has taken the first two legs of the four-game series after beating the Padres 4-1 on Friday. Cole Hamels threw six innings of four-hit ball on Friday, allowing one run to push his record at Petco Park to a perfect 4-0. The Phillies plated three runs in the seventh inning when Brian Schneider and Juan Pierre hit a pair of bases-loaded singles.
The Padres have scored just one run combined in the two series-opening games, and their path shouldn't get any easier on Saturday with Roy Halladay taking the hill for Philadelphia. Halladay is 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA after his first three starts.
Cory Luebke (1-1, 3.71 ERA), Halladay's counterpart, threw seven innings and allowed just one run during a 7-1 against the Colorado Rockies on Monday.

Cole Hamels to improved to 4-0 all time at Petco Park as the Phillies beat the San Diego Padres 4-1 Friday night. Hamels went 6 innings, giving up 1 run and striking out 4. The bullpen threw three hitless and scoreless innings to finish it off.
The Phillies did their offensive damage in the 7th when Brian Schneider & Juan Pierre both hit bases loaded singles to plate 3 runs. It could have been an even bigger inning had pinch hitter Jim Thome not struck out with the bases loaded. Given that Thome is hitting .077 on the season, one has to wonder whether Hamels would have had a better shot to get his bat on the ball at this point.
Freddy Galvis went 2-3 with a walk tonight and has his season average up to .244 after he had gotten off to a terrible start. He’s not going to make anyone forget Chase Utley, but his bat is at least showing signs of life. Shane Victorino also had two hits, including a solo homer in the 8th. In giant Petco Park, that’s something to be admired.
Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 5th save of the season. Roy Halladay takes the hill tomorrow evening as the Phils look to win their 3rd straight.

The Philadelphia Phillies continue life out West when they meet the San Diego Padres on Friday night at Petco Parl. (Game Time: 10:05 p.m. ET, TV Schedule: CSN Philly)
Philadelphia's offense has struggled to begin the season, but another good pitching effort gave the Phillies a 2-0 victory in the first leg of the three-game series with the Padres on Thursday. Vance Worley struck out 11 foes and threw seven innings of shutout ball to lead the Phillies.
Cole Hamels takes the mound on Friday looking to extend Philadelphia's 12-game winning streak at Petco. That's the longest active winning streak by one club in another's ballpark. Hamels has been lights out during the streak, going 3-0 with a 0.38 ERA during his last three starts at Petco.
Edinson Volquez gets the start for San Diego.
Here's the lineup for tonight
1. Pierre LF
2. Polanco 3B
3. Rollins SS
4. Pence RF

The Philadelphia Phillies won their sixth game of the season on Thursday night – a 2-0 victory over the San Diego Padres. Vance Worley pitched seven innings, allowed four hits, three walks, no runs and struck out 11 batters. Then, Chad Qualls and Chad Papelbon came in for the eighth and ninth to slam the door.
Despite the win, the Phillies continued their anemic ways at the plate. They scored only two runs – one on a sacrifice fly and another on a passed ball. They've scored 37 runs this season, which ranks second-to-last in the National League. Fortunately, they've given up an NL-low 34 runs.
Juan Pierre went 2-3 at the plate, including a triple. He also drew a walk. The Phillies lead-off man possesses a trip-slash of .333/.353/.747 this season with three steals. Ideally, a leadoff man would have a higher on base percentage, but Pierre has his highest OBP since 2009.
