Carlos Ruiz Injury Update: Catcher Day-To-Day With Sore Wrist

Stay connected for news and updates

Philadelphia Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz missed the team's 4-1 victory against the San Diego Padres on Friday night due to a sore left wrist, and will be reevaluated on Saturday according to manager Charlie Manuel.

Ruiz, considered day-to-day, was injured during a collision at the plate Thursday night and dealt with swelling and soreness as a result. His availability for Saturday night's meeting with the Padres depends on how the wrist responds.

"He was having trouble gripping a bat, and I decided that today is the day that I would give him the day off," manager Charlie Manuel said on Friday. "I might give him another one, but we'll see how he is tomorrow."
