Phillies Manager, Charlie Manuel Suspended One Game

According to Ken Rosenthal, of Fox and Fox Sports, Philadelphia Phillies manager, Charlie Manuel has been suspended for a game.

Baseball suspends #Phillies manager Charlie Manuel for one game stemming from incident that led to his ejection by Bob Davidson on Tuesday

Deadspin has more on the ejection, and the heated confrontation between Manuel and Davidson:

Davidson initially responded to Manuel's complaint with the very professional "You think I wanted to block his [expletive]?" then tossed Manuel before the skipper could even get out of the Phillies dugout. The ensuing argument features what appears to be several instances of Davidson screaming, "[expletive] you, Charlie!"

This marks the second time this season that Charlie Manuel has been ejected from a Phillies game.

Bob Davidson was also suspended for his part in the incident. MLB disagreed with his "situation handling."

Umpire Bob Davidson has received a one-game suspension for his repeated violations of the Office of the Commissioner's standards for situation handling, Major League Baseball announced today.

The Phillies are 20-19 on the season.

Phillies Vs. Cubs Final Score: Philadelphia Survives 9th-Inning Scare, Wins 8-7 For 5th Straight

The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago Cubs, 8-7, on Thursday night in Game 2 of their two-game series. Roy Halladay pitched well for eight innings, giving up three earned runs and seven hits with four strikeouts. He almost didn't get the win after the Cubs nearly erased a five-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Jacob Diekman came in for Halladay, and promptly walked two and hit Ian Stewart with a pitch to load the bases. Welington Castillo hit a double with two outs to score three runs. Jonathan Papelbon replaced Diekman and gave up a hit to Darwin Barney to score Castillo and bring the Cubs to within one run, 8-7. Fortunately, pinch hitter Reed Johnson grounded out on a 1-2 pitch to give Papelbon his 11th save of the season and Halladay his first win since April 16.

Chris Volstad's long winless streak continued. The Cubs' starter lasted just two innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs before being pulled in favor of Casey Coleman. Carlos Ruiz batted in his first of three RBIs on the night in the first inning to put the Phillies on the board. He would finish 3-for-4 from the plate. Hunter Pence batted in two more runs on a second inning single to score Jimmy Rollins and Juan Pierre.

The Phillies capped their scoring with a three-run eighth inning. A throwing error by Chicago reliever Blake Parker scored Halladay and Rollins, and Ruiz hit his third RBI to bring Pence around home. The Phillies finished with 14 hits as a team, earning six walks and one base on an error.

Halladay gave up one run on a Starlin Castro sac fly in the first. He pitched five scoreless innings until the seventh, when Castro led the inning off with a home run to left field. Castillo hit another homer to lead off the eighth, but Halladay retired the next three batters to end the inning.

The Phillies head back home for a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox beginning Friday at 7:05 p.m. ET.

Phillies Vs. Cubs Final Score: Hector Luna Pinch Hit Grand Slam Wraps Up 9-2 Philadelphia Win

The Philadelphia Phillies clubbed their way back up the NL East standings on Wednesday night with a power-fueled outburst against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. A six-run ninth inning capped off a 9-2 for the Phillies, their fourth straight victory.

Carlos Ruiz broke a 2-2 tie with a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning. Antonio Bastardo retired the side to preserve the slim lead in the bottom of the inning before the Philly bats added a whole bunch of insurance in the ninth. Ty Wiggington singled in a run, and Hector Luna hit a pinch hit grand slam to ice the Cubs.

Kyle Kendrick allowed two runs on a fourth inning home run to Alfonso Soriano. He drove in Bryan LaHair who reached second on an error by Juan Pierre.

Vance Worley Injury: Elbow Soreness Lands Phillies Starter On DL

More bad news for the Philadelphia Phillies on the injury front has just come through. Vance Worley is headed to the disabled list with right elbow inflammation, retroactive to May 12, according to a report.

Worley has been a stalwart this season for Philly, compiling a 3-2 record with a 3.07 ERA.

Worley isn't going to garner many headlines with the likes of Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee in the rotation, but he's a solid innings-eater who can be depended upon.

To replace Worley on the roster, the Phillies called up lefty Joe Savery. Savery has pitched eight innings at the major league level this season and been tagged with four earned runs.

Worley is just another blow to a team ravaged by injuries, whether it be Ryan Howard, Chase Utley or Cliff Lee (who has already had a DL stint).
