The first round of the 2012 MLB Draft is scheduled to get going Monday night in Secaucus, NJ.
While the baseball draft doesn't get the same attention nationally as the NFL or even the NBA drafts, it has been gaining steam since it's debut on the MLB Network.
Philadelphia Phillies fans will have to be patient, with the Phils not having a selection until the 40th overall selection. The pick is in fact a compensatory one.
Ruben Amaro Jr. has a big decision to make, with the Phillies major league club aging and often injured. Whoever Amaro takes Monday night could go a long way in helping to replenish the team in a few years.
The Houston Astros will kick things off with the first overall pick.
Here's the complete order of the first round:

The Philadelphia Phillies lost to the Miami Marlins, 5-1, on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park. With the loss, the Phillies dropped the series, 2-1.
Joe Blanton took the hill for the Phillies in the rubber match and went six innings in the loss. Blanton gave up nine hits and five runs (all earned) while striking out six batters and walking one. Carlos Zambrano went 7 2/3 innings in the win for Miami. He allowed just four hits and one earned run while striking out seven batters and walking two. Heath Bell picked up a save by pitching two-thirds of the ninth inning. Bell allowed no hits.
Zambrano provided some of his own offense in the third inning with a solo home run. Hanley Ramirez homered in the fifth inning to double the Marlins lead to 2-0. Jose Reyes hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to push the lead to 4-0. Zambrano came around to score again in the seventh inning when Chad Qualls threw a wild pitch. Juan Pierre, who was 3-for-4 at the plate on the day, had the only RBI for the Phillies with a single in the eighth inning.
The Phillies' next series begins June 4 against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies are 12-15 at home this season.

The Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins will conclude their three-game set at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday (1:35 p.m. ET on PHL 17). Veteran Joe Blanton (4-5, 5.05 ERA) takes the mound for the Phils' and will oppose Carlos Zambrano (3-3, 3.00) in the rubber match of the series, which has featured Philly winning Game 1 (6-4) but losing Game 2 (5-4).
The Phillies (28-26) are hoping Blanton can returns to his early-season form and rebound from his last three starts that have featured him compiling a 12.56 ERA. Meanwhile, Zambrano is coming off a solid effort against the Washington Nationals.

Cole Hamels lost only his second game of the season Saturday afternoon, when the Phillies dropped a close one to the Miami Marlins.
Hamels went 6.2 innings, allowed five runs, on seven hits and two walks. He fanned eight, but it was two mistakes to Hanley Ramirez, that resulted in two home runs, that ultimately knocked Hamels out of the game. The loss drops Hamels to 8-2 on the season, and raises his ERA to 2.81.
Ricky Nolasco was the winning pitcher for the Marlins. He went seven innings, allowed four runs, on eight hits and two walks. He also fanned five batters. The win brings Nolasco's record to 6-3 on the season.
Hunter Pence homered for the second consecutive game.
The rubber match of the series is scheduled for Sunday.

It was earlier reported that Jose Contreras was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday. Now, according to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly, the Philadelphia Phillies reliever has officially suffered a season-ending injury.
Official word on contreras is UCL tear and flexor tear. Very serious. Season ending ... Contreras has torn the Tommy John ligament. Tough break. Good man worked hard to get back.
Contreras has pitched well for the Phillies out of the bullpen this season – despite his high ERA of 5.27. He's been the victim of bad luck on the field, inflating his ERA, and it now appears he's suffered a bit of bad luck, off the field. At 40 years old, it may be tough for Contreras to return from this serious of an injury.

According to the official Twitter of the Philadelphia Phillies, Jose Contreras has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Michael Schwimer has been recalled from Lehigh Valley to replace Contreras.
The 40-year-old Contreras has pitched 12.1 innings out of the Phillies bullpen in 2012, with an ERA of 5.27. Despite the high ERA, he's pitched fairly well. His FIP of 2.66 suggests that he's been a bit unlucky. He's drawing more swings and misses than he has in previous years and is still throwing his fastball in the low 90s.
Schwimer has 20.1 major leagues on his resume, but hasn't exactly lit it up, with an ERA of 6.10 during his brief major league stints. However; like Contreras, his FIP suggests he's pitched better than his ERA. He generates a decent amount of swings and misses, and has posted good numbers throughout the minors.

Hamels lost his first start of the season against the Marlins, but has won eight consecutive decisions since. In his last nine starts he is 8-0 with a 2.22 ERA.
The Marlins will give the ball to Ricky Nolasco, who is trending in the opposite direction of Hamels. Nolasco has dropped three of his last four starts and has a 7.06 ERA during that span.
