David Herndon Injury Update: Phillies Reliever Likely To Have Tommy John Surgery

The latest bad news injury wise for the Philadelphia Phillies concerns relief pitcher David Herndon. Herndon is reportedly likely to undergo Tommy John surgery (via CSN Philly).

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said about the reliever, "Herndon went to see [Dr. James] Andrews yesterday, consulted with him. And then today, we believe he is going to end up having a Tommy John. It's a very strong possibility. I don't know the minute-to-minute update, whether they felt like they had to do it. It's a pretty big blow to the kid and to us. He would have done [the surgery] today."

Herndon made five appearances this season before moving to the disabled list with right elbow inflammation. He was 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA in 7 2/3 innings. He struck out eight batters and walked just one.
