Phillies Vs. Dodgers, Game 4: Philadelphia Swept With 8-3 Loss On Thursday

The Philadelphia Phillies were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-3, on Thursday at Citizens Bank Park. With the loss, the Phillies were swept by the Dodgers in four games in Philadelphia for the first time in franchise history.

The Phillies got all three of their runs in the third inning. Pitcher Cole Hamels got the first run of the game when he scored when Hunter Pence hit into a fielder's choice. A sacrifice fly by Ty Wigginton put another run across and Mike Fontenot hit an RBI single to cap the scoring. The Dodgers got their first run in the top of the fourth inning on a Jerry Hairston Jr. sacrifice fly. Then in the sixth inning, L.A. took the lead with three runs. James Loney, Tony Gwynn Jr. and Matt Treanor each hit RBI singles. In the ninth inning, the Dodgers put the game away against Chad Qualls. Treanor would score on a fielder's choice. Andre Ethier hit a two-run double and Hairston got a single which drove Ethier in. Qualls only got one out in the ninth inning while allowing five hits and three earned runs.

Hamels, who was 6-0 in his career against Los Angeles, got the start for the Phillies but was unable to prevent another loss for Philadelphia. Hamels lasted six innings, giving up four runs (three earned) while striking out six batters and walking one in the loss. Aaron Harang got his 100th career victory in the start for the Dodgers. Harang went six innings, giving up eight hits and three runs, all earned.

The Phillies dropped to 0-23 on the season when trailing after the seventh inning.
