Phillies At Dodgers Recap: Roy Halladay Leads Philly To 3-2 Win In Return

In Roy Halladay's much anticipated return from the disabled list, the Phillies won their fourth straight game with a road victory against the Dodgers by a score of 3-2. Halladay was better than decent in his first start since May 27, allowing just two runs over five innings, without walking a batter and striking out six

The Phillies are already in a deep enough hole for this season to already be a lost cause. But more importantly, they hadn't been able to work with all of their pieces until Tuesday, so even with the reality of being in last place of the NL East, there is plenty of optimism to go around.

This season, the Phillies had been 0-38 after trailing through seven innings. That's until Tuesday when they made a resilient rally in the eighth.

Phillies At Dodgers Preview: Game Time, TV Schedule And Probable Starters

Now that the Phillies are finally healthy, they have good reason to remain optimistic about their future if the what's left of this season doesn't result in any major injuries. The Phillies got healthy in both its batting lineup as well as pitching this week and on Wednesday they look to complete a series sweep on the road against the Dodgers.

Chase Utley and Ryan Howard are back. Also, Roy Halladay was activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.

The Phillies have won four straight games, and with Cliff Lee (1-6, 3.92 ERA) on the mound, it could be a fifth against the reeling Dodgers team that's dropped four consecutive games on the contrary. Lee faces Clayton Kershaw (7-5, 2.84 ERA) in what is sure to be a fine pitching duel.

Phillies At Dodgers Preview: Roy Halladay Returns From DL As Philadelphia Lineup Returns To Full Strength

For the first time this season Tuesday, the Philadelphia Phillies' batting lineup and pitching rotation will be fully healthy entering a contest. The return of ace pitcher Roy Halladay will highlight the evening's accomplishment as the Phils' search for their fourth straight victory when they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 2 of a three-game set at Dodgers Stadium (10:10 p.m. ET on Comcast SportsNet).

Halladay (4-5, 3.98 ERA) will take the mound the mound for the first time since May 27 after straining his right lat. It is unclear as to who Halladay will oppose, as Dodgers planned starting pitcher was Chad Billingsley, who's suffering from elbow inflammation and isn't expected to start. MLB.com's Jake Kaplan thinks L.A. could start minor-leaguer Stephen Fife.

Halladay's return comes a few games after Ryan Howard, who smacked the game-winning home run in a 3-2 victory on Monday, returned from the disable list. Veteran second baseman Chase Utley, who also missed most of the season with a knee injury, will also be in the lineup for the first time of a Halladay start.

A victory Tuesday for the Philly could setup a possible three-game sweep of the Dodgers, who're 6-18 in their last 24 games, as lefty Cliff Lee will pitch Wednesday for the Phillies.

Cole Hamels Trade Rumors: Phillies Reportedly Plan To Offer Pitcher At Least $120 Million

The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly preparing to offer pitcher Cole Hamels an offer of at least $120 million (via CBS Sports).

The Phillies are trying to retain Hamels with such an offer. Philadelphia was able to sign Cliff Lee for $120 million over five years. However, the Phillies might need to dig deeper to sign Hamels. On the free agent market, sources told CBS, Hamels could bring in $150 million or even more money.

Hamels, 28, is 11-4 this season for the Phillies with an ERA of 3.07. For his career, Hamels is 85-58 with an ERA of 3.36 and 1,216 strikeouts in 1,287 1/3 innings pitched. He has won at least 10 games every season since he won nine as a rookie in 2006.
