Shane Victorino's tenure in a Philadelphia Phillies uniform may soon reach its end. According to CBS Sports' baseball inside Jon Heyman trade talks involving the outfielder have been taking place and one of those teams interested are the New York Yankees -- a team usually willing to wheel and deal near the trade deadline.
They've talked to the Phillies about Shane Victorino and the Diamondbacks about Justin Upton, but Upton is a major long shot for them and right now they see the price tag as too high on either. Victorino may be slightly more realistic eventually, though.
GM Brian Cashman said on Sunday asking prices are generally too high, and that the deals available weren't worth it to make "marginal'' improvements.
The Yankees do need an upgrade in the outfield, as left fielder Brett Gardner has been injured and his recovery has been hampered a few times. Currently, New York is using veteran Andruw Jones and Raul Ibanez in a platoon situation.
