Phillies Vs. Dodgers Final Score: Philadelphia Loses, 5-3, In 12 Innings

The Philadelphia Phillies were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-3, on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium.

The Phillies were even with the Dodgers in the pitcher's duel between Cliff Lee and Clayton Kershaw. Lee and Kershaw both went eight innings in the game. Lee allowed two hits and one earned run while Kershaw allowed five hits and one earned run. Lee gave up one walk and struck out four while Kershaw gave up no walks and struck out seven. The Phils needed four pitchers to get through the ninth inning while the Dodgers only used Kenley Jansen.

Juan Rivera put the Dodgers on the board first with a solo homer in the second inning. Carlos Ruiz tied the game with an RBI single in the fourth. The Phillies were able to breakthrough again in the 10th inning on Dodgers reliever Javy Guerra. Philadelphia drew three walks and a hit which produced two earned runs. The Phillies countered in the 10th with Jonathan Papelbon but he allowed four hits and two earned runs. Bobby Abreu hit an RBI single and Matt Kemp reached on an infield single to tie the game 3-3.

The teams went into the bottom of the 12th still tied 3-3 when Kemp came to bat again and hit a walkoff two-run home run to opposite field off of Jake Diekman to win the game for the Dodgers. Diekman was charged with the loss. He pitched 1 1/3 innings and gave up two hits and two earned runs. Jamey Wright got the victory for the Dodgers for a scoreless 12th inning.

The Phillies (41-52) will play the Giants (50-40) in their next series beginning on July 20 at Citizens Bank Park.
