Roy Halladay started the game for the Phillies and was pegged with the loss after allowing three earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings pitched. However, the game drastically got out of hand in the one inning Halladay did not pitch, when the combination of B.J. Rosenberg, Raul Valdes and Michael Schwimer allowed six earned runs on five hits in the eighth inning alone.
Ty Wigginton was responsible for producing the Phillies' two runs as he hit a home run in the fifth and tied the game with an RBI single in the sixth.
Former Phillie Greg Dobbs acted as the Marlins' offensive star of the game by going 3-for-4 with two RBI and the game-winning home run in the bottom of the sixth. Miami starting pitcher Mark Buerhle earned the win, allowing two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts, in seven innings pitched.
