The Phillies will be happy to get Carlos Ruiz back. The catcher expects to return in September.
Carlos Ruiz expects to return to play in early September. The Philadelphia Phillies will be happy to have their catcher and most productive hitter back at the end of the regular season, even if the team is mostly reduced to playing the role of spoiler at that point.
John Beauge of the Patriot-News reports that Ruiz, who is currently on the disabled list with a foot injury, is on pace to be activated in early September. Although many fans have given up hope at this point, Ruiz still feels strongly that the Phils can make it to the postseason with a late push.
Getting Ruiz's bat back in the lineup will go a long way toward making those chances possible. "Chooch" had been hitting .335/.399/.559 and far outpaced the productivity of the rest of the everyday starters on the team.
