One night after Cole Hamels pitched a complete game shutout, effective starting pitching was nowhere to be found at Citizens Bank Ballpark. Tim Hudson and Kyle Kendrick both surrendered six runs through the first five innings of Wednesday's game. Unfortunately for the Phillies, the bullpen gave up another six on the way to a 12-6 loss.
Jimmy Rollins hit a homer and a double, accounting for two RBIs and a pair of runs. Ryan Howard hit a three-run shot in the fifth to tie up.
Atlanta broke things open in the seventh when Dan Uggla drove in two with a double to left. Antonio Bastardo was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs in the seventh.
Philadelphia gets a day off on Thursday before the Cardinals visit for a weekend series on Friday.

After splitting the first two games of this series, the Philadelphia Phillies will try to secure the rubber game on Wednesday night against the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies lost the first game by a wide margin, but rebounded on Tuesday night behind a dominant Cole Hamels performance. Kyle Kendrick now gets the ball with a chance to ride that momentum.
Kendrick is having a sub-par year to this point with a 4-9 record and a 4.45 ERA. He struggled mightily as a starter but was lights out in July out of the bullpen. In fact, he didn't allow a run the entire month.
In July, Kendrick started just once and it came against these same Braves. He was terrific, going seven innings while not allowing a run and striking out five.
Tim Hudson will be on the bump for Atlanta and unlike Kendrick, he's been very consistent. The 37-year-old is 11-4 with a 3.45 ERA for his hometown team.
In his last start against the Houston Astros, Hudson threw 7.1 innings of one-run (unearned) ball giving up just four hits and two walks.
After the game, Philly will have the day off before welcoming the St. Louis Cardinals to town.

Cole Hamels pitched a complete game shutout, giving up just five hits and striking out six as the Philadelphia Phillies blanked the Atlanta Braves, 3-0, on Tuesday night in Game 2 of the three game series at Citizens Bank Park. Hamels improved to 12-6 on the season. The complete game was his first of the season.
The Phillies did all of their scoring in the first inning. Jimmy Rollins led off the inning with a double, setting up a Domonic Brown RBI double to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Ryan Howard hit his fifth home run of the season to put the Phillies up 3-0. Braves starter Mike Minor (6-8) finished his night after seven innings having given up three earned runs off seven hits and two walks.
Game 3 of the series is set for 7:05 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Kyle Kendrick (4-9, 4.45 ERA) and Atlanta's Tim Hudson (11-4, 3.45) will be the starting pitchers.

After slowly working their way out of the NL East basement, the Philadelphia Phillies are right back where it started at the beginning of the week -- the cellar. It was a short lived experience, but Monday's loss to the visiting Atlanta Braves placed the Phillies in a last-place tie with the Miami Marlins.
On Tuesday, ace Cole Hamels (11-6) will try and help his team get back out of last place as he opposes the Braves' Mike Minor (6-7) in Game 2 of the three-game series. This could be a tough task for Hamels, who has only won once in his last seven starts, while the Braves are 11-2 in their last 13 games.

On Monday night, it was another evening of disappointment in the city of brotherly love.
In the opener of the three-game set between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, the Braves took care of business by the count of 6-1.
Ben Sheets was sublime on the hill, going 7.1 innings while allowing just a single run on seven hits and a walk. In an oddity, Sheets struck out the same amount of batters as you and I; zero.
Vance Worley took the loss, surrendering four earned runs in just 3.2 frames of work. Worley gave up six hits and three walks while striking out just two batters.
The only Phillies run of the game came off the bat of John Mayberry Jr., who blasted his ninth home run of the season in the home half of the fourth.
Jason Heyward went deep in the ninth for Atlanta as part of his two-hit night, while Dan Uggla and Freddie Freeman also had multi-hit games.
