Nationals vs. Phillies preview: Kyle Kendrick tries to play spoiler in Game 2

The Philadelphia Phillies opened their final home series of the season on Tuesday night with an impressive 6-3 win over the Nationals. They'll look to continue and spoil Washington's attempt at clinching the NL East in Game 2 on Wednesday, sending Kyle Kendrick to the hill.

Kendrick has been one of the Phillies steadier starters during the second half, taking the ball every fifth day and almost always turning in a quality start. He's pitched well against the Nats this season, posting a 2.37 ERA in four appearances.

Washington will send John Lannan to the mound. Lannan is a veteran lefty who spent most of the season in Triple-A. But he now occupies Stephen Straburg's turn in the rotation. He was roughed up by the Dodgers in his last start, and the Phillies are certainly familiar with Lannan's stuff. He had a 5.57 ERA against the Phils through 13 starts from 2009-2011. This is an entirely new role, however, as he looks to try and trim the Nationals magic number from five.

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET and CSN will have the local broadcast. ESPN2 will also carry the game for a national audience.
