David Beckham's Freekick Leads To Goal, Gives Galaxy 1-0 Lead Over Philadelphia Union

A Kyle Nakazawa foul ended up costing the Philadelphia Union a goal.

David Beckham took a long freekick from around 35 yards out and connected with an unmarked Leonardo to score the Los Angeles Galaxy's first, and so far the only goal, of the game. Leonardo, a center back for the Galaxy, scored his first ever MLS goal as he was left unmarked by his man (who appeared to be midfield Stefani Migloranzi's man to mark).

The Union had yet to concede a goal heading into this game against the Galaxy. Danny Califf, Carlos Valdes, Sheanon Williams and Jordan Harvey combined with goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon to produce two clean sheets in the Union's first two games of the 2011 MLS season.

Beckham and Mondragon have some history with freekicks. The two faced off in the last match of the group stages of the 1998 World Cup, as England defeated Colombia to progress in the competition. Beckham scored a classic "Beckham Freekick" against Mondragon, one of the first of his international career.
