Philadelphia Union F Lionard Pajoy Suspended For Tackle Against Toronto

Philadelphia Union starting forward, Lionard Pajoy, has been suspended for one game.

Major League Soccer has suspended Philadelphia Union starting forward, Lionard Pajoy, for one game, for his conduct against Toronto FC last weekend.

Pajoy was also fined for the incident in which the Colombian striker lost the ball and went in hard against Plata, who had gained possession of the ball seconds before the challenge.

Pajoy received a yellow card during the game, but upon further investigation by the disciplinary committee, it was deemed that Pajoy's actions were worthy of a red card. Here are the criteria for a red card, as described by FIFA:

  • "Using excessive force" means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent.
  • A player who uses excessive force must be sent off
