The Philadelphia Union will honor U.S. women's soccer star Carli Lloyd on Wednesday night.

The Philadelphia Union will pay tribute to a U.S. soccer hero Wednesday night, as they will make Carli Lloyd an honorary captain for their game against the Columbus Crew. Lloyd, a Derlan, N.J., native and two-time gold medalist, scored the U.S. Women team's lone two goals in its gold medal victory, 2-1, over Japan.

In the Olympics, Lloyd scored four goals for Team USA, which ended up being the second-highest total on the squad. Four years ago in Beijing, Lloyd scored the game-winner in the gold-medal game against Brazil.

This will be the second time in less than a week Lloyd is being honored by a professional sports franchise in Philadelphia. Last Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies honored Lloyd and teammate Heather Mitts, who both have New Jersey and Philadelphia connections.
