Big East Expansion: Temple May Receive 'Football-Only' Invite

According to the New York Post the Big East plans to invite six teams to the conference, but before any schools are officially invited, the conference plans to raise the exit fee for FBS members.

The first order of business is for the Big East to agree to raise the exit fee from $5 million to $10 million for the FBS members. The exit fee for non-FBS members, such as St. John's and Seton Hall, would remain at $5 million. There could, however, be some shortening of the 27-month exit window, the source said.

Air Force, Navy, Boise State and Central Florida appear to be locks to receive invites, with the remaining two spots "up for grabs" between Houston, SMU and the Temple Owls.

Despite a "strong objection" from Big East member and Philadelphia brethren Villanova University, it's possible the Owls will receive a 'football-only' invite from the conference.

Sources told The Post that Villanova expressed strong objection to sharing the Philadelphia market with Temple. Philadelphia, however, is home to Comcast, which logically favors more Philadelphia-based institutions.

If Temple does not receive an invite, it's likely that both SMU and Houston will.
