Rutgers Coaching Search: Temple's Steve Addazio Not Leaving Owls, According To Report

Temple Owls head coach Steve Addazio, who was once thought to be a leading candidate to replace Greg Schiano at Rutgers, is now reportedly not leaving Temple (via Philly.com).

"He's not going to Rutgers," said one source with inside knowledge.

Addazio arrived at Temple last season and guided the Owls to a 9-4 record and a win in the New Mexico Bowl.

Addazio had been named by multiple reports as one of the finalists for the Rutgers job. Temple denied the reports that Addazio was a finalist and refused further comment. Earlier this offseason, Addazio was linked to the opening at the University of Illinois. Addazio said he was not interested in the opening.

The other reported candidates to replace Schiano were Rutgers interim head coach Kyle Flood, Rutgers offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti, Florida International head coach Mario Cristobal and New York Giants offensive line coach Pat Flaherty.

Temple's Steve Addazio Top Choice To Replace Greg Schiano at Rutgers, According To Report

One and done?

Temple Owls head football coach Steve Addazio is reportedly the top choice to replace the departed Greg Schiano at Rutgers, according to ScarletReport.com, an affiliate of Scout.com. Addazio recently finished his first season at the helm of the Owls at 9-4 after two seasons as the Florida Gators' offensive coordinator.

The Philadelphia Inquirer attempted to speak to Addazio, but a team spokesperson said the coach declined the interview request and that the school does not respond to rumors.

The spokesperson did, however, deny the report.

"He has been with a recruit from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and now he's in his office," the spokesperson said.

ScareltReport.com reports that Addazio is scheduled to meet with Rutgers officials on Friday. The school is looking for Schiano replacements after the former Scarlet Knights coach left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
