No Philadelphia area teams made the latest Top 25 NCAA basketball rankings, but the Villanova Wildcats and Temple Owls were among the teams to receive votes.
After beginning the season with three consecutive wins, Villanova earned 48 votes in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll. That total would have been good enough to tie for No. 27 if the poll ranked teams beyond the top 25.
Temple had 20 votes in the latest poll. The Owls lost on Friday to the Purdue Boilermakers, but have won three of their first four games, including a 78-74 overtime win against Wichita State on Sunday.
North Carolina remained the runaway No. 1 choice, receiving 30 of 31 first-place votes. The Tar Heels were followed in the top five by Kentucky, Ohio State, UConn and Syracuse. Duke, Louisville, Memphis, Florida and Baylor rounded out the top 10.
