NCAA Basketball Rankings: Sports Illustrated Has Villanova & Temple Higher Than AP

New, 1 comment

Earlier today the AP college basketball poll came out and had Villanova ranked at No. 6 and Temple at No. 22. Sports Illustrated was a bit kinder to the locals. In their college basketball preview, it has Nova ranked at No. 4, ahead of Big East rival Pitt at No. 5. SI’s top 3 are the same as the AP poll with Duke, Michigan State and Kansas State.

Temple was ranked at No. 20 in their poll, still the top team in the Atlantic 10. None of the other big five teams managed to make SI’s rank of the top 68 teams likely to make the NCAA tourney.

Temple’s Lavoy Allen and Nova’s Corey Fisher were named to the magazine’s preseason All American honorable mention list.

It also highlighted the 16 key games of the season which includes Georgetown at Temple on Dec. 9 and of course the Villanova vs. Temple matchup on Dec. 30. Big five games are always big, but that one is shaping up to be immense.
