The AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll came out today and neither were kind to the locals. After losing to Tennessee in the preseason NIT final Villanova dropped from #7 all the way down to #12 in both rankings. Tennessee was a big beneficiary of that win however, as they leapt up to #13. Next up for Villanova is a matchup with Big 5 rival St. Joe’s on Friday night.
Temple lost twice last week at Cal and at Texas A&M, neither of which are ranked schools. As a result, the Owls dropped out of the Top 25 altogether in both polls. They received no Top 25 votes in the AP top 25, but they did get 5 votes in the coaches poll. If you went by vote totals, that would put them around #35 in the country. The Owls play their 5th straight away game Wednesday at Central Michigan.
