The Pittsburgh Penguins are riding a 12 game winning streak tonight into Philadelphia to face the Flyers, who the trail the Pens by just a point for the best record in the NHL. Yahoo sports calls this the top rivalry in the NHL and yet with the Eagles victory over the Cowboys on Sunday and the Phillies shock signing of Cliff Lee, this game has gotten a bit overshadowed locally... but not to the players.
"We've had this on the calendar for a while," Jeff Carter said. Danny Briere added "Pittsburgh's won 12 games in a row and we want to put a stop to it and reclaim tops in our division."
The Flyers have taken two of three from the Pens so far this season, but lost their only matchup in Philadelphia 5-1. Rookie goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been especially good against Pittsburgh posting a 2-1 record with a 2.67 GAA in three starts against the Penguins this season.
The Penguins current streak has unsurprisingly been sparked by Sidney Crosby, who currently leads the NHL in both goal and assists. He's also scored more points against the Flyers than any other team in the NHL, of course he probably has also played the Flyers more than pretty much any other team... but it's an impressive mark nonetheless.
