Junior guard Ramone Moore scored 30 as the Temple Owls upset the #9 ranked Georgetown Hoyas 68-65 tonight in Philadelphia. The loss was Georgetown's first of the season. It was a statement of intent type of game for Temple, who now boast two consecutive wins over quality opponents (Maryland the other) after they were dropped from the AP top 25 last week. This win over a top 10 opponent certainly put the Owls back in the national consciousness
Hoya's sophomore forward Hollis Thompson had a close shot to put Georgetown up with a few seconds left, but missed. Rahlir Jefferson would go on sink two free throws to put it away for Temple. After Georgetown missed a desperation three, the students stormed the court to celebrate Temple's biggest win of the season.
Jefferson and Scootie Randall both added 10 points for the Owls while LaVoy Allen led the team in boards with six.
Georgetown is now 3-15 all-time against Temple in Philadelphia. This was also coach Fran Dunphy's 400th career win. Next up for Temple is Akron on Sunday.
