Capturing the general consensus of the Collins hiring, the Daily news calls the move “safe” which doesn’t mean “bad”
The hiring of the 58-year-old, who was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick by the Sixers in 1973, might not produce universal approval from their long-suffering fan base, but it should garner nearly unanimous respect. No one should shake his head in confusion about this one.
As an all-around basketball mind, Collins is one of the best in the business.
Smallwood points out that in his first season with every team he’s coached, Collins has improved them by at least 10 wins. For this Sixer team coming off a dismal 27 win season, that shouldn’t be too hard of a streak for Collins to maintain.
His take is one being echoed by nearly everyone covering the Sixers. Collins isn’t the most inspired choice out there, but it’s one an under fire GM(Ed Stefanski) can make that will be sure to please his bosses and draw little to no fire from the local media.
