Agent: Phillies Reach Out To Pedro Martinez, Ask About Possible Return

ESPN's Enrique Rojas reports that the Philadelphia Phillies, who sit 3.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East, have gotten in touch with Pedro Martinez to gauge his interest in returning to Philadelphia to pitch the second half of this season.

"We have talked to his agent, but there's nothing so far," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "We are not negotiating, but we've been talking to him. It all depends on whether he wants to play or not."

Sources close to Martinez told ESPNdeportes.com that he plans to pitch in the second half of the season and that he is undergoing a physical conditioning regimen in the Dominican Republic and Miami.

Martinez pitched well for the Phillies during the 2009 campaign, sporting a 5-1 record and a 3.61 ERA.
