CSNPhilly is reporting that the Flyers are trying to swing a deal similar to the one made for defenseman Dan Hamhuis, although this time for San Jose Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov.
In addition to dealing the rights to Hamhuis, Holmgren attempted to trade for the rights to San Jose goalie Evgeni Nabokov. It didn’t happen, but the Flyers and one other NHL club are in the hunt. "I’m not going to get into what I’m talking about with anyone," Holmgren said when asked about his conversation with Sharks’ GM Doug Wilson. Talks are expected to continue through the draft and perhaps beyond.
Nabokov is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Any trade would give the Flyers exclusive negotiating rights until then.
Sam Carchidi's sources confirm the report.
Now, sources say, the Flyers are exploring a deal that would give them negotiating rights to San Jose goalie Evgeni Nabokov, who can become an unrestricted free agent next Friday.
Holmgren and Sharks’ GM Doug Wilson had several long talks during Friday’s first round, and they will resume Saturday, when Rounds 2-7 are held.
