The MLS transfer window has opened, and rumors have been flying around about which aging stars might be making a move to MLS. One of the most famous soccer players in the world, Thierry Henry has already signed with Union rival New York Red Bulls. However, Ives Galarcep says to not expect a guy like that coming to Philly.
↵↵↵According to multiple sources with knowledge of the team’s plans, the Philly Union do not intent to bring in any high-priced players via a Designated Player slot this season.
↵
He quoted a team source as saying “Why spend $3 million on a player who is going to be around for a year? The team is better of spending that money on academy and training facilities.”
↵Fact is, with season tickets already sold out, the Union don’t need a big attraction to sell tickets. They’ve previously said that they aren’t interested in signing guys to play for a year or two, they’ll only consider a DP if he’ll help the team long term.
↵In case you didn’t know, a “DP” is a designated player whose salary is outside of the teams’ salary cap.
