Philadelphia Union Battle Real Salt Lake To 1-1 Draw

If I wanted to save myself some time, I could just copy and paste my recap from any recent Union game and just change some of the names. The Union fought hard tonight, had a good share of the possession in the 2nd half, yet just couldn’t make the breakthrough and settled for a 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake.

A draw really isn’t the worst result for an expansion team against the defending league champs. Real might not have been at full strength, but they’re still one of the better teams in MLS and getting a point off them is a decent result for Philly.

The Union opened the scoring tonight after Sebastian LeToux flicked a backheeled ball on nicely to Danny Mwanga and the rookie slotted home his sixth goal of the season. Unfortunately Real Salt Lake would answer just 6 or 7 minutes later. Fabian Espindola would take advantage of a slip by newly acquired Union defender Juan Gonzalez, then just embarrass defender Danny Califf and put one by Chris Seitz. Very nice individual goal.

The Union are back at it this Saturday at PPL Park as they host the Colorado Rapids at 4pm.
