Chase Utley made two rehab starts last night in a double header for Phillies minor league affiliate Clearwater.
Utley started game one at second base going 1-for-4 and knocking in a run. He was, however, charged with his second error in as many days. Chase was the DH in the second game of the doubleheader and went 1-for-2 with a triple. He also walked and struck out.
At this point it’s all about timing at the plate and being comfortable in the field again for Utley. If he’s healed enough to play in Clearwater, then he’s healed enough to play tonight as the Phils face the Giants. He’ll almost assuredly join the team today but it remains to be seen whether he’ll start.
That said, does anyone think they won’t start Utley if he’s available? Nah.
