Recap: Rollins Powers Phillies Over Giants

Jimmy Rollins had three hits, including a three-run homer to power the Phillies to an easy 8-2 victory over the Giants. Joe Blanton's first innings woes continued as he gave up a leadoff HR to Andres Torres, but he was able settle in and ended up turning in a quality start with 6.1 IP, 7k, and 2 ER .

Chase Utley got his first two hits and first RBI since coming off the DL a day ago. Domonic Brown also crushed a pitch into the seats in right as he pinch hit in the bottom of the 8th.

The lines of the two starting pitchers tonight show how timely hitting and defense was what really made the difference tonight. Cain went 6 innings and gave up 7 hits with 2 ER, while Blanton went 6.1 and gave up 8 hits with 2 ER. Mike Fonteno's error in the fourth would allow the baserunners for Jimmy Rollins' 3-run jack.

The Phillies have won 20 of their last 25 games, hold a two-game lead in the NL wildcard race, and still sit 2.5 games back of the Braves in the NL East.

Cole Hamels takes the mound tomorrow night as the Phillies go for the series sweep and their 100th straight sellout at Citizens Bank Park.
