Phillies Acquire Five-Time All-Star Mike Sweeney From Mariners

The Philadelphia Philles have acquired veteran first baseman and designated hitter Mike Sweeney from the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later or cash considerations according to the Associated Press.

The 37-year-old Sweeney was hitting .263 with six home runs and 18 RBI in 30 games for the Mariners, including three starts at first base. With runners in scoring position, he had an average of .313 (10-for-32).

Sweeney is a five-time American League All-Star and has hit at least 20 home runs in six different seasons and could fill in for the injured Ryan Howard.
