Recap: Phillies Win Over Florida Puts Them Two Up In NL East

Miami, FL (Sports Network) – Cole Hamels pitched into the seventh inning, and Jayson Werth notched the game-winning RBI in the fifth as Philadelphia clipped Florida, 2-1, in the middle contest of a three-game set.

Placido Polanco drove in the other run while Shane Victorino collected two hits and scored twice for the Phillies, who have won seven of eight and moved two games clear of Atlanta in the NL East. The Braves dropped a 6-0 decision to Washington earlier Tuesday.

Hamels (11-10) was pulled after 127 pitches over 6 2/3 innings, but scattered five hits and one run with two walks and fanned a season-high 13 batters.

Dan Uggla hit safely twice and knocked in the lone run for the Marlins, who have dropped five of eight overall.

Adalberto Mendez (1-1) was charged with four hits and two runs, walking five over 4 1/3 frames.
