Roy Halladay won his 19th game of the season as the Phillies rolled past the Marlins for a series sweep. The Phils win tonight, coupled with a Braves loss earlier extends their lead in the NL East to three games.
The Phillies did their damage early in this one against a Marlins that basically didn't have a starting pitcher. Reliever Jorge Sosa started the game and the Phillies put 3 runs on the board before the Marlins even had a chance to bat. The damage was all done by the big guns in that inning as Jayson Werth singled in Chase Utley before Raul Ibanez doubled in Ryan Howard and Werth.
Wilson Valdez would knock in a run in both the 3rd and 4th inning as the Phillies built an 9-2 lead after the 5th inning. The Marlins would chip away at the lead for the final 4 innings and were actually able to load the bases in the 9th inning with a run in against Brad Lidge(who walked 3 in 1/3 of an inning ugh). However, Jose Contreras would shut the door and actually earn a save in a 10-5 game.
And how's this for a stat... Ryan Howard walked three times.
