The Philies seized control of this game from their first at bat and cruised to an easy 9-1 victory over the visiting Washington Nationals.
The Phils put up 6 runs in the bottom of the first, all of which were knocked in by singles. Jayson Werth, Raul Ibanez, Roy Oswalt, & Wilson Valdez all singled in runs in the inning. The power would come later in the game as Werth and Carlos Ruiz both hit home runs on a windy night at Citizens Bank Park.
Roy Oswalt gave up a run in the top of the first and the Nationals wouldn't score again. Oswalt gave up 6 hits over 6 innings, striking out 7 in the 150th win of his career. Oswalt also reached the 2,000 innings pitched mark tonight, something only 15 other current major league pitchers have done.
The Phils send Kyle Kendrick to the mound tomorrow as they go for their 5th straight win and major league best 14th win in September.
