Alvaro Bacil, playing for the Phils’ Dominican Summer League team, has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for “a metabolite of Boldenone.” Now, I’ve never heard of any of those words before (perhaps “of”) but it’s bad news for the DSL reliever with a 2.70 ERA.
↵While it’s all speculation at this point, based on the unidentified problems with more talented Kevin Angelle and his subsequent release, I can’t imagine the Phillies would waste any time in ridding themselves of a guy so low on the prospect ladder. Considering Tyson Gillies’ cocaine charges, this has been a weird season for Phillies minor leaguers.
