The Saint Joseph's Hawks will begin their 2011 season tonight on the road against Western Kentucky. The Hawks finished last season 11-22 overall and 4-12 in the A-10, but should experience significant improvement this season and enter the Atlantic 10 as a potential sleeper.
Last season four of the Hawks top six players were freshman, led by Langston Galloway, who averaged roughly 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. Now those four freshman are four sophomores, and with a year of experience under their belts, the Hawks should be a much better team this year.
In addition to the freshman, the Hawks have added Chris Wilson – who will be the third guard – and a transfer from Hofstra, 6-foot-8 sophomore Halil Kanacevic. Kanacevic opened some eyes last season by scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds against powerhouse Kansas, and finished as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year.
Tip-off of tonight's game is at 8 p.m. EST.
