Villanova (2-0) was back in action on Tuesday night looking for its second straight win while playing host to La Salle (1-1) at the Pavilion in Villanova, Pennsylvania.
The Wildcats survived a close scare against the Explorers, hanging on to win by a narrow margin of 76-69 in overtime.
La Salle had a commanding first half, outperforming the home team by a score of 31-26. Villanova was able to catch up in the second stanza 35-30 to send it into overtime, where they would eventually pull away after outpointing their guests 15-8.
Tyreek Duren led the Explorers with 24 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals while Maalik Wayns was tops in the Wildcats with 22 points, nine rebounds and four assists.
La Salle heads home to host James Madison Dukes on Saturday while Villanova welcomes Delaware's Fightin' Blue Hens on Friday night at home.
