Joe Paterno’s son announced today that the 84 year old former coach of the Penn State football team has been diagnosed with a treatable form of lung cancer.↵
“As everyone can appreciate, this is a deeply personal matter for my parents, and we simply ask that his privacy be respected as he proceeds with treatment,” Scott Paterno said in a brief statement.↵
Paterno said that doctors expect his father to make a “full recovery.”↵
Paterno was of course recently fired after over 40 years in charge of Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. Critics of Paterno say he did not do enough to stop the abuse after he was allegedly made aware of it.
