The speculation can finally end. The Denver Nuggets have traded Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks, ending months of speculation about the future of the All Star forward. The Knicks get themselves a 26 year old 4 time All Star who hails from New York City. Anthony was set to be a free agent after this season, so the Knicks paid dearly for the right to negotiate an extension with Melo before the end of the season. The Knicks have the cap room for a deal and he wants to be in New York, so it's basically fait accompli that a deal will get done.
Along with Anthony, the Knicks will also get Chauncey Billups, which will also help fill a need for them. Also included in the deal to balance out the cap dollars are Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman. As for what the Knicks gave up... it's a good portion of their roster. Here is the package according to the Denver Post.
Denver gets Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks 2014 first-round draft pick, the Warriors' 2012 second-round pick, the Warriors' 2013 second-round pick and $3 million in cash.
