Juan Fernandez scored 19 points as the Temple Owls outlasted the Massachusetts Minutemen, 73-67, in overtime in an Atlantic 10 matchup at the Mullins Center.
Lavoy Allen scored 14 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for the Owls (23-6, 13-2 A-10) who have won 11 of their last 13 overall and 10 straight in conference. Aaron Brown and Khalif Wyatt scored 10 points each. Rahlir Jefferson grabbed 10 caroms, while Ramone Moore handed out seven assists.
Anthony Gurley scored 25 points for UMass (15-13, 7-8), while Javorn Farrell added 13 points and seven boards.
The hosts led 34-30 at halftime after shooting 14-of-30 from the floor, including 5-of-10 from long range.
The game was tied at 60 with 2:54 left in regulation. There were three lead changes down the stretch before Allen hit one of two free throws for the Owls with 48 seconds left to force overtime. Fernandez missed a shot at the buzzer that would have given Temple the win.
Massachusetts was just 1-of-10 from the floor in the extra period, while Temple was 2-of-4 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the line.
The Owls finished the game with a 24-6 edge in points from the foul line.
