The Penn State rugby team got themselves off to a nice start in pool play of the USA Sevens Rugby Championship yesterday going 2-1. However, in what was essentially the playoff this afternoon at PPL, they were eliminated by Dartmouth 12-7. Speaking to CSNPhilly, Penn State coach Don Ferrell says his team can be proud of their effort this weekend.
↵Obviously disappointing,” Ferrell said. “It was a good rugby match. We had a couple opportunities, and in sevens if you make a mistake, you don’t have a lot of time to make up for it. Our goal was to make the semifinal, and we came a couple seconds short. I thought we had a good tournament. After last year, the experience, the guys were really looking forward to it, to proving that they belong here, and I think they did that.”
↵The Temple Rugby squad was the other local in action today in the challengers bracket, but they lost to North Carolina 19-10. This was the Owls' first appearance at the collegiate Rugby Sevens Championship.
