Michael Vick’s life continues to come full circle. In 2006, he was one of the NFL’s most exciting players, a pro bowler and arguably Nike’s biggest NFL endorser. Remember those famous “Michael Vick Experience” ads?
↵But then in 2007, it all went away in the wake of the revelation about his dogfighting operation.
↵But now, he’s once again one of the league’s most exciting players, once again a pro bowler and once again a Nike athlete. The brand announced today that they have resigned him to an endorsement deal.
↵
↵ “Michael acknowledges his past mistakes,” said Nike spokesman Derek Kent. “We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field.”
CNBC reports that this might be the first time in sports marketing that a major brand has dropped an athlete and came back to sign him.
↵So, I guess cue the animal rights groups feigning outrage and calling for boycotts of Nike?
