The Philadelphia Flyers improved to 25-12-4 on the season with a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday. Sean Couturier notched his sixth goal of the season for the game winner just 3:23 into the third period.
Brayden Schenn struck first for the Flyers, finding the net on an assist from Wayne Simmonds shortly after a scoreless first period. Jerome Samson tied the game up for the Hurricanes later in the second on a power play. The goal was the first of his career. Both starting goaltenders did a nice job in net, with Flyers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward each turning back 35 shots.
With the win, the Flyers remain four points behind the New York Rangers, who won 2-1 over the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday night. The Flyers improves to 18-3-3 against the Hurricanes since the start of the 2006-07 season.
