Junior forward Matt Kavanaugh netted a collegiate-best 23 points Saturday to help the Dayton Flyers clip the La Salle Explores, 79-75, in a Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball game at the University of Dayton Arena. The Flyers (13-5, 3-1) propelled themselves into a three-way tie atop of the A10 standing, while the Explorers (13-5, 2-1) had a six-game winning streak snapped.
Senior guard Earl Pettis netted a team-best 19 points for the Explorers, who trailed by as much as 12 points with 2:13 remaining in the game. However, a late-game rally cut the margin to just 78-75 with 59 second remaining.
Dayton cemented the victory when senior guard Josh Parker made a free throw with two seconds remaining.
